SGS Essen’s series in the women’s Bundesliga has broken. The Essen team had no chance against Eintracht Frankfurt and lost 1:4 (0:3).

It was the first defeat for the SGS after five competitive games in a row without a win. Géraldine Reuteler (17th), Erëleta Memeti (27th) and Nicole Anyomi (37th) put the SGE on the road to victory in the first half. Immediately after the break, Anyomi made it 4-0. Louisa Müggenbürg scored the consolation goal for Essen shortly before the end.

For Essen’s interim coach Jessica Wissman it was the last game on the sidelines. The Belgian Heelen Jaques will take over the helm for the second half of the season.

SGS still above the line

Thanks to the unbeaten series, the SGS got out of the bottom of the table Women’s Bundesliga fought and remains above the line even after the defeat against Frankfurt, two points ahead of Hamburger SV. HSV travels to second-placed VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Eintracht, on the other hand, ended a mini-crisis with three games in a row without a win and temporarily climbed to fourth place in the table.

Frankfurt dominated from the start

The SGE exuded pure dominance on Hafenstrasse on Friday evening. It was only thanks to Essen’s goalkeeper Kim Sindermann that the score was only 0:3 from SGS’s point of view at the break. In the 17th minute, Sindermann was beaten for the first time. Reuteler scored from a corner to make it 1-0 for the guests.

Ten minutes later, Sindermann was powerless again. Memeti moved from the right side to the middle and shot from the edge of the penalty area with her weaker left foot. The ball hit the far corner unstoppable for Sindermann.

And it got even more bitter for the SGS: In the 37th minute, a failed attempt to clear the ball landed at the feet of Anyomi, who scored to make the score 3-0 at halftime.

Anyomi makes it 4-0

After the break it only took three minutes before Anyomi was able to celebrate again. In the penalty area, Essen’s national player Lany let Mia Bäcker get out and sank the ball into the far corner – Sindermann had no chance again (48th).

By now the game had finally been decided, and as a result the game was noticeably flattening out. There was only excitement again in the final phase. Müggenborg won the ball on the edge of the penalty area and shot straight away. Her deflected shot landed in the net to make it 1:4 (89′).

SGS in the basement duel at HSV

The SGS can no longer succeed. After the winter break, a tricky task awaits new coach Jaques. On January 25th (4 p.m.) the SGS travels to the basement duel at Hamburger SV. Eintracht Frankfurt welcomes TSG Hoffenheim on the same day (3:15 p.m.).
