To strengthen combat power, Defense is quickly purchasing CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IGV). To this end, the military organization is participating in joint European purchasing Nordic Initiative. State Secretary Tuinman informed the House of Representatives of this by letter.

The joint purchase of the CV90 has advantages. It reduces costs and makes operations at European level more uniform. Sweden is conducting contract negotiations with the manufacturer for the joint purchase of the CV90. The current CV90 combat vehicles are undergoing a midlife update. Part of the implementation will take place in the Netherlands. More than 20 Dutch companies are involved in production as suppliers.

Defense also purchases unmanned systems. These must strengthen anti-tank capacity and provide ISR capacity (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance). This increases operational effectiveness. and reduces risks for soldiers.

13th Brigade

Defense is assigning the new equipment to the 13th Medium Brigade. This will have an extra armored infantry battalion with the Nassau-Dietz barracks in Budel as its home base. With its great mobility and firepower, that battalion contributes to a mix of heavy and medium infantry. Reinforcing the infantry is essential when preparing for a possible large-scale conflict.

The combat vehicles that the Netherlands currently possesses are already receiving an update. To protect them from anti-tank missiles, they are equipped with, among other things, an APS (active protection system).

Between 1 and 2.5 billion euros are available in the Defense investment budget for the purchase. For reasons of operational and commercial confidentiality, the quantities, delivery times and budget are not made public.
