The rental of the building also caused disagreement. The KKB wanted to stop in January, while the municipality of Hoorn preferred to stop in April. That was because of the rental agreement.
“It could only be ended earlier if there was a new tenant,” the municipality said in a response.
Otherwise not an option as a thrift store
A new tenant has been found with the Dress by Jess thrift store. They take over children’s and baby clothing and other items from the children’s clothing bank and try to keep it affordable and accessible: three pieces of children’s clothing for 1 euro.
This satisfies both the children’s clothing bank and the municipality.
The KKB had the opportunity to continue as a thrift store. But that was not an option for them, says Wendy Buijs, who has been with the foundation for three years. “We get free stuff and give it away for free. That is the concept we continue to support.”
