Too much hassle, too complicated, too much government interference, say many older entrepreneurs. And yet there are those who love their job so much that they still take the plunge. We went to a café at Urbain and Mariette, who have been serving their daily pints for more than five decades.
In café De Beautiful Molen in Ruddervoorde, Mariette Duyvejonck can still hold her own: “If the customers are too difficult and they drive me crazy, I take my stick and hit their heads if necessary.”
But still, the introduction of e-invoicing made her doubt her future as a café owner: “Yes, that didn’t work. I can’t do that, work with a computer, honestly.”
