Dante Gebel was the protagonist of the last edition of NEWS. And that cover spread like wildfire in the red circle, and also in the networks. Since then, rumors and speculation about the more than likely candidacy of the evangelical pastor have grown wild. The first attacks from the Government have even reached him, while Santiago Caputo sent him to test the waters. It seems that religion is here to stay in Argentine politics.
Gebel left the country the day after he did his last show at the Gran Rex, on Thursday the 11th. Before returning to the United States, where he has lived for 17 years, he made noise in the political environment. On the one hand, the consulting firm CB Public Opinion was the first to measure the man of God in terms of voting intention. It gave him 1.8%, a number that is low or not depending on how you look at it: more than one outsider would like to have those metrics just a few days after launching his candidacy.
However, what appeared most were speculations. On the one hand, Daniel “Fat Dan” Parisini went out to cross Gebel with everything on the networks, an attack that was replicated by several of the frontline official Twitter users. It is a move that many viewed with caution: the idea of insulting someone to truly install them in the public conversation is part of the basic action manual of Santiago Caputo and his people. In fact, the star advisor has already sent one of his soldiers to follow the pastor. There are several in politics who believe that, in truth, the Government wants to manufacture its own opposition.
For now they are rumors, like those that maintain exactly the opposite: on the networks there are already memes that show Gebel with the face of Sergio Massa, as if everything were another invention of the Tigrense. Milei was in the past and the experiment got out of control.
Meanwhile, the pastor continues to swell his ranks. Among those who began to publicly support his candidacy are the liberal leader Yamil Santoro and a former soccer player from San Lorenzo and Boca, Walter Erviti, and even the former libertarian deputy Carlos D’Alessandro showed some sympathy. On the day of the last show at the Gran Rex, the Peronist mayor of Malvinas Argentinas, Leonardo Nardini, and the former mayor of San Isidro, Gustavo Posse, were present. In any case, the 2027 presidential election is still far away, and Gebel has no plans to return to Argentina any time soon. But this story still has chapters left.
