On Monday, November 17, the West Flemish federal judicial police (FGP) in collaboration with the inspection services of the RIZIV (National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance) carried out several house searches in the Houthulst area. The investigators independently arrested home nurse Stefanie Sander (42), but her mother, her partner and an employee were also arrested. The searches also seized 17 luxury vehicles, luxury goods, real estate and cash. After questioning, the Vlaams Belang municipal councilor and her partner were brought before the investigating judge. He decided to arrest Sander on suspicion of social fraud. Her husband was released on conditions.
