Ex-Nascar racing driver Greg Biffle has died in a plane crash. His wife and two children also died in the accident in North Carolina.
Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle died in a plane crash in North Carolina. According to authorities, the private plane he owned crashed on approach to Statesville Regional Airport on Thursday morning. Biffle’s wife Cristina and his two children, aged 14 and 5, also died in the accident.
According to authorities, the accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. local time. The aircraft was a Cessna C550 owned by the 55-year-old. The airport is frequently used by NASCAR teams and large corporations. According to a report by the AP news agency, the Cessna C550 caught fire when it hit the ground. It had taken off from Statesville Regional Airport, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Charlotte, but crashed shortly after while attempting to return and land, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Greg Biffle was considered one of the most successful drivers in US motorsport. He won the championship in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2000 and in the then Busch Series in 2002. Biffle was the first driver to win titles in both racing series.
In his career, he drove 515 races in NASCAR’s top class, winning 19 times. He also achieved 20 victories in the Xfinity Series and 17 in the Truck Series. The driver, who comes from Washington state, mainly competed for Jack Roush’s team.
