The authorities have confirmed the accident having claimed at least five fatalities. There is no information about the passengers of the plane, but according to a close friend Biffle was supposed to fly in with his wife and two children.
The accident happened in North Carolina at ten in the morning local time. Officials say Biffle’s Cessna C550 took off, but it soon turned back trying to land. The plane fell and burst into flames.
The videos taken from the scene of the accident are heartbreaking to watch. The completely destroyed plane is raging like a sea of fire.
Biffle competed in Nascar’s premier class from 2002 to 2022. He won 19 races in the series. In addition, he was successful in other Nascar classes. In 2000, he won the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series, which competes in pick-up trucks. He finished third twice in the Daytona 500.
When Nascar named the 75 greatest drivers in its history, Biffle was one of the honorees.
Biffle is also remembered for things outside the racetrack. He played a significant role in relief efforts when Hurricane Helene caused massive destruction in North Carolina last year.
