The handball players from SC DHfK Leipzig missed out on reaching the Final4. Despite a good first half, the Saxons had to admit defeat in the quarter-finals against TBV Lemgo Lippe.

The handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig missed out on making it to the Final Four of the DHB Cup for the second time since 2017. Coach Frank Carstens’ team lost the quarter-final duel in Dresden against TVB Lemgo Lippe, third in the Bundesliga, 27:35 (11:14). In front of 2,704 spectators, Lucas Krzikalla was SC DHfK’s best thrower with six goals.

Leipzig loses its lead – Möstl is outstanding

After a nervous start, Leipzig found their rhythm in attack and led 7:5 (12th minute) after a 4-0 run. As a result, the bottom team in the Bundesliga repeatedly failed because of the strong TBV goalkeeper Constantin Möstl, who recorded nine saves by the break. Lemgo acted more efficiently in attack and went into the break with a three-goal lead.

Lemgo makes everything clear early on

After the change, the Leipzig team increased their hit rate, but still couldn’t get any closer because the variable guests reliably found good solutions on the offensive. With a 4-1 run to make it 29:22 (52nd), they secured the preliminary decision.

SCM vs. Flensburg on Thursday

The other participants in the Final4 will be determined on Thursday. The Bundesliga table leaders SC Magdeburg meet their first rivals SG Flensburg-Handewitt (7:30 p.m. live in the audio stream and ticker). Champion Füchse Berlin meets cup defending champion and record winner THW Kiel. The Bergisch HC also calls for the MT Melsungen.
