TOP Oss did not pull off a stunt in the KNVB Cup on Wednesday evening. The difference between the low-flyer in the Kitchen Champion Division and the middle-ranking player in the Eredivisie was too big: 0-2.
After TOP Oss won in the first cup round against amateur club HHC from Hardenberg, FC Utrecht emerged for the next round. The cup match was lively in Oss and the Frans Heesen Stadium was a lot fuller on Wednesday evening than normal in the competition. After an atmospheric campaign by the Osse supporters, there was a spectacle to be seen on the field, but that did not happen.
The initial phase of the match was cautious, but then the Utrecht team took control. TOP Oss goalkeeper Mike Havekotte had to make several saves. After just over half an hour of play, the keeper had no chance when Emirhan Demircan tapped in the rebound after a corner.
In the second half the game looked similar to the one before half time for a long time. TOP Oss was not able to make things really difficult for FC Utrecht, but the Eredivisie player was also unable to convince. In the last fifteen minutes, the home team took more risks in the hope of forcing the equalizer. That didn’t work and in the final phase it was Victor Jensen who doubled the score: 0-2.
