Cigarette buyers’ faces secretly scanned in gas stations: ‘You can be followed on a large scale’

In dozens of branches of the Esso gas station, the faces of visitors who buy cigarettes are scanned with an artificial intelligence (AI) device, without them being informed. The device makes a scan and uses facial features to determine whether someone is at least 18 years old.
