Insect nursery Wadudu in Beilen has been given room to continue by local politics in Central Drenthe. A majority has no objection to thwarting a new permit for the company.
In Beilen, Wadudu conducts research into the breeding of insects, mainly mealworms and black soldier flies. It received a permit from the municipality for this in 2020, but the Council of State ruled that the municipality did not grant the correct permit. The municipality must therefore grant a new permit.
The municipality has had research carried out and has concluded that the noise and odor regulations are being met. With this decision by local politics, the entrepreneur can apply for a new permit. Only Municipal Interests and Positive Forward voted against.
At the Midden-Drenthe initiative, the municipality will evaluate the state of affairs in two years. Complaints and risks for living in the area are then examined, among other things, and the company must involve local residents in at least one public meeting.
