Joop van den Ende recently revealed that he now walks around behind the scenes with a walking stick, but that is not the only thing. He now also needs a walker. “Lots of shame.”
He is one of the richest people in our country: Joop van den Ende. However, the media and theater billionaire is 83 years old and that of course comes with all kinds of health restrictions. For example, he recently said that he suffered from neuropathy, which he said caused his nerves to die. And that is a pretty drastic situation.
Rollator
Joop recently revealed that he walks around with a walking stick out of sight of the cameras, but in reality he needs another aid. “I walk with a cane and a walker,” he says in the Weekend. “The balance sheet is the worst.”
When asked what impact that has on him, he answers: “I don’t mind it anymore. But when the time came, I was ashamed of it, just like many others. You do that process in steps, now I am no longer ashamed of it.”
Vanity
Why is Joop ashamed of that? “Vanity. I’ve always been a strong man, I always stand up for everyone. I’m the first in the studio, the last to leave. I had more energy than anyone else. And now I have to walk with a stick. That’s vanity, I can’t think of any other word for it.”
Fortunately, mentally everything is still going well. “I am blessed with a good brain. My energy, my ideas, my creativity are still there. That’s the only thing. I feel really good. Of course I don’t work as hard as I used to, which makes sense. But I can still keep going.”
