In the men’s competition the Coello-Tapia couple triumphed, in the women’s Fernandez-Gonzalez won

It ends on a high note, after a year that started badly for Premier Padel, with a tough tug of war between players and organizers of the circuit. Those months now seem like a distant memory: 2025 of professional padel has been redeemed and ennobled by the spectacle that was seen on the pitch month after month, with some rivalries destined to last and with the usual “waltz of the couples” which will see important changes in 2026. At the top of the FIP ranking at the end of the year are Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia among the men, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea among the women: this was known even before the Finals in Barcelona, who concluded the season worthily over the weekend.

It could only be between Coello-Tapia and the “Chingalan”, the last very tight challenge of the year: the gap between the two “parejas” queens and all the other players is too wide, and it is no coincidence that they continue to change partners, in search of the magic formula to reach the two top couples. After two consecutive successes in Dubai and Acapulco, fundamental to securing first place in the world rankings, Arturo and Agus made a hat trick, overcoming Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan who had taken home the first set in the tie-break. Vehement reaction in the second set (6-3) and escape in the third, but at the best moment something goes wrong: ahead by a break, in the tenth game the match point arrives but the Chingalan cancel it, then obtaining the counter-break. It goes to the tie-break again and this time, also thanks to an unusual decline from Chingotto, Coello-Tapia closes 7-4.

It also took three sets to decide the women’s final, which confirmed an already very clear trend: Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay are the number one in the world, but they always have great difficulty against the explosive Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez, capable of beating them 8 times out of 10 this year. And the probable imminent farewell between Bea and Claudia is quite paradoxical, caused by the “earthquake” that the separation between Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez has triggered (Bea should become Paula’s partner, if what has been said and written in recent days is confirmed by the facts). The final showed how much freshness and explosiveness the Gonzalez-Fernandez pair can bring to the table, when Bea’s physical condition is at least acceptable: 6-4 the first set, 6-3 the third, after a blackout which allowed Brea-Triay the second set 6-0. 2026 will tell whether the choices to break the consolidated structures have been successful or ill-advised: we start again in February, now everyone is recharging their batteries.
