Johannes Klæbo experienced a rare fate for himself on Saturday, when he missed the quarterfinals in the World Cup sprint. The Norwegian got really hot after the failure.

Suomen Viaplay and a Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that Klæbo tore his number vest after the race.

– I heard when he tore his vest, skiing in the same race as Klæbo George Ersson reports to Expressen.

According to NRK Klæbo also threw his sticks. The star quickly left the goal area and didn’t want to talk to anyone.

– He is really angry when he leaves the goal area and seems really angry with himself, NRK Jan Post said and told that the skier threw his pole on the hill.

According to International Ski Federation (FIS) rules, skiers should appear in front of the media after their race day is over. Klæbo, however, put his backpack on his back and left the competition venue.

Only the Norwegian national team coach agreed to speak To Arild Monsenwho ran after the skiing star to tell that he might still be able to continue in time.

– He is probably already in his hotel room, Monsen said after the end of the sprint.

According to Dagbladet Klæbo went straight to the hotel. The organizers are trying to get the star to return to the venue without success.

The Norwegian star’s ranking in the Davos free sprint was 17th. It is the worst of his career, considering all the World Cup competitions, the Olympics and the World Championships for adults.

A fatal turn

Klæbo’s difficulties started already in the first round of the quarterfinals.

The inner ski of the Norwegian, who was skiing behind his group, hit the trail in the turns, and Klæbo used his other hand to support the trail. The Olympic champion was far behind the rest of the group. Klæbo, who usually dominates sprints, caught up with the others after skiing, but did not get to the top spots.

The same bend caused problems again in the second round. The Norwegian skied the corner long and fell into a tactical error at the beginning of the final straight.

– Klæbo made a tactical mistake. He left from the left, did not come from the right. He already got to that side, a Viaplay expert Sami Jauhojärvi analyzes what Klæbo did in the final stretch.

Klæbo was fourth in his heat, so he had to worry about whether the time was strong enough for the continuation. It wasn’t, so the day was over before it even started.

The last time Klæbo missed the quarterfinals of the World Cup sprint was on February 3, 2016, i.e. almost ten years ago. At that time, the young Norwegian skied his first World Cup sprint and was 15th.

The last World Cup sprint in which the superstar participated but did not win was in January 2024.
