Jürgen Klinsmann surprisingly returns to FC Bayern as a player. At the Legends Cup he meets old friends and former rivals.

Jürgen Klinsmann will appear as a player at the FC Bayern Legends Cup at the SAP Garden in January 2026. The former FC Bayern striker will meet numerous well-known faces, including Franck Ribéry and Lothar Matthäus.

Arjen Robben, Giovane Élber, Philipp Lahm and Mario Mandžukić have also confirmed their participation in the tournament on January 18th.

Klinsmann played for FC Bayern from 1995 to 1997 and won the UEFA Cup with the club. His later role as coach was less successful. His term in office ended after just one season in April 2009. The club bosses at the time, Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, later described the decision to sign him as a mistake.

17 years later there is now a surprising return. It will also be exciting to see how former opponents and teammates Klinsmann and Matthäus will play together. Even decades after their clinch, the two former world-class footballers did not agree on their assessment.
