Selina Friday in action

Just like at the Summer Grand Prix in Klingenthal, Nozomi Maruyama takes victory ahead of Nika Prevc. Selina Freitag ends up in seventh place.

Despite a fantastic team performance in the first round, the German ski jumpers did not make it onto the podium at the first World Cup competition in Klingenthal.

The best DSV eagle was Selina Freitag with seventh place, Agnes Reisch and Katharina Schmid landed in 11th and 13th place. Nozomi Maruyama (Japan) took the victory, it is her fourth triumph this season. Nika Prevc came second. Lisa Eder from Austria completed the podium.

Friday with the longest jump in the first round

After the first round, Selina Freitag gave hope that it would be enough for the podium place she longed for. She performed by far the longest jump (130.5 meters) in front of her home audience – just 50 minutes by car from her home town of Breitenbrunn.

Because she botched the landing and did the telemark incorrectly, she only ended up in seventh place. Overall, the DSV Eagles had delivered in the first round: Katharina Schmid and Agnes Reisch had also done important preparatory work and were now in eighth and ninth place. Reisch, who had a cold, wasn’t sure until the end whether she would start.

Selina Freitag: “Very disappointed”

Schmid and Reisch then fell back slightly in the second round. With her 11th place, Schmid’s form curve is pointing upwards again: The 2023 world champion said on ARD after jumping: “I’m happy to be back at the front again”but it still needs it “a bite”to be at the front again.

Selina Freitag jumped solidly – and stayed in seventh place. After the competition, the local hero said into the ARD microphone: “I am very disappointed”. But the feeling and the jumps would now feel better than at the beginning of the season.

Juliane Seyfarth disqualified

It was the first time in four years that the ski jumpers were guests at the Vogtland Arena for a World Cup. But the last appearance was only in the summer: At the Summer Grand Prix, Nozomi Maruyama took victory ahead of Nika Prevc – just like on Friday. Juliane Seyfarth, who actually ended up in 19th place, was disqualified after jumping – according to initial information, her skis were said to have been too long.
