Papenbreer has secured the menswear specialist Eckerle.
The Erfurt fashion retailer has taken over Eckerle GmbH & Co. KG retroactively to November 15th, a spokeswoman for Papenbreer told FashionUnited. The industry magazine Textilwirtschaft had previously reported that the previous owner, the Munich menswear specialist Hirmer Group, was separating from Eckerle.
The company, led by managing partner Sebastian Papenbreer and operating two of its own locations in the east of Germany – Erfurt and Magdeburg – is also expanding its branch network to include the existing Eckerle branches with the takeover. A third location is also scheduled to open in Dresden in February. The spokeswoman was unable to share further information about the takeover or what would happen next with Eckerle at this time.
After Hirmer had already closed Eckerle stores in Frankfurt am Main, Augsburg and Nuremberg, the main store in Munich followed in the summer of this year. Most recently, the retailer only had stores in Hanover, Münster, Augsburg, Stuttgart and Wiesbaden.
Hirmer has not yet responded to a request from FashionUnited.
