Sector federation Agoria: “New blow to the Flemish manufacturing industry”
For Agoria Vlaanderen it is “particularly painful to see a Flemish manufacturing company hit again”. This is what general manager Jolyce Demely says now that train builder Alstom intends to cut 150 jobs in Bruges.
“Our Flemish industry already lost 6,500 jobs last year. We cannot afford to lose any more technical talent, especially because every job lost in the industry also indirectly affects other jobs in the chain,” says Demely.
Agoria Vlaanderen wants to support affected employees and points to the many open technical vacancies. “We must do everything we can to guide these people to new sustainable employment as quickly as possible,” says Jolyce Demely. The demand for technical talent remains high, it sounds, and Agoria wants to actively contribute to guiding employees to “companies that urgently need new employees today”.
