In recent decades, the health insurance funds have been able to build up assets of almost 6.1 billion euros and this is partly due to the way the government treats them. Unlike ordinary citizens, they escape many taxes. In part 2 of our series ‘The billions from the health insurance funds’, our research unit discovered that the tax authorities are leaving hundreds of millions behind. How is that possible?
