Evert Santegoeds expects that Arjen Lubach’s contract will not be extended when it expires at the end of 2027. “Yes. I think so, yes. It just doesn’t fit. It doesn’t suit RTL,” said the Privé boss.

Friend and enemy agree that Arjen Lubach has not delivered what was expected of his new employer RTL 4. He was supposed to boost the channel’s late evening performance, but in reality his scores are disappointing, he no longer has any impact at all and he is a major obstacle to his progression to the late talk show. So a failed transfer.

Expensive exercise

Private boss Evert Santegoeds has the idea that the Lubach transfer is one of the reasons that Peter van der Vorst has to leave as program director of RTL. “Things haven’t been going well for him lately, of course. Arjen Lubach’s transfer will also be blamed on him,” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.

He continues: “Because even though the figures are quite okay, it is not the talk of the town and that is very strange, because he was when he was at the VPRO. It was a very expensive exercise to put him there at that time. In fact, everyone agrees that he gets in the way of RTL Tonight.”

‘It doesn’t fit!’

RTL Tonight may have failed because of Lubach, according to Evert. “It could otherwise have started half an hour earlier and become a greater success. I think RTL Tonight itself was the stab that ended Van der Vorst’s career in that place. Everyone agrees that it was not a voluntary choice.”

Co-host Jordi Versteegden then: “Do you think Arjen will not be extended after this contract?”

Evert: “Yes. I think so, yes. It just doesn’t fit. It doesn’t suit RTL.”

Too many left turns

Jordi also thinks it is a blunder on Peter’s part. “No, I completely agree with you on that. I also believe that they turned a little too far to the left at that channel.”

Evert concludes: “Yes, and we all know why. At least, Van der Vorst has never made a secret of his political preference…”
