December 8 – 8.37pm – ROME

Third day of travel for the Olympic Flame, which will tour Italy until arriving in Milan on February 5, on the eve of the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Games. This morning the torch left from Montefiascone, in the province of Viterbo, crossed Orvieto, Narni and Rieti – with a particularly evocative moment at the Marmore Falls – and then had its City Celebration in Terni.

a special story

And in the Umbrian city there was a special torchbearer, who does not have a recognizable name like Tamberi, Berrettini or Achille Lauro, but who has a story to tell. His name is Romolo Pelliccia, he is 89 years old and is a master world champion in track and road walking, he holds the world record for 3000 meters of walking in the M75, M80 and M85 categories. But there’s more. Romolo, from Castelgiorgio in Terni, has been running since he was little. Since running was something bigger than a sporting passion. Since running meant surviving: “Because during the war I ran to transport food”.

emotions

Coca-Cola chose him as part of the ‘Enter history’ campaign. Bring the magic of the Olympic Flame’, open to anyone who gives this relay a universal and symbolic value. Romulus is undoubtedly an example of this. And so in his Terni he ran, proudly with his torch: “It was a unique moment, pure emotion, almost difficult to explain, especially for those who, like me, experience sport as an essential part of their life, a faithful companion who teaches values and gives meaning to the days. For me it had an even greater value: I wanted to demonstrate that sport knows no age, that we can continue to do it. Running is the thread that unites my entire history, and being able to do it again today, with this Flame in my hands, was a way to keeping alive the bonds with the many people I met along the way and who still share with me the passion for training at that moment, I was not alone: with me there were the memories, the affections and the strength of the sport that continues to make me feel alive”.

tomorrow from Spoleto to Perugia

Tomorrow the Flame will move from Spoleto (11.30 am), pass through Foligno, Spello, Santa Maria degli Angeli, Assisi (4 pm) and arrive in Perugia for the City Celebration. Special torchbearers, the captain of the world champion Italvolley Simone Giannelli and Andrea Ranocchia.
