Lukas Podolski still plays for the Polish club Gornik Zabrze. He feels very connected to the club – and is now investing in it.

Lukas Podolski has been playing for Gornik Zabrze since 2021. Now the 2014 world champion is not only committed on the pitch, but also financially – on a large scale.

As the Polish first division team and the footballer announced, the 40-year-old bought a total of 104,611 registered shares in Gornik Zabrze SA through his company LP Holding GmbH. Podolski now holds 8.3 percent of the share capital and is the club’s second largest shareholder.

“The entry of Lukas Podolski into the shareholder structure is the first formal step towards taking over the club and underlines his long-standing and sincere commitment to the development of Gornik,” the club said. The city of Zabrze, still the largest shareholder, had initiated the ongoing privatization process.

Podolski was born in nearby Gliwice. He has been playing for Gornik Zabrze for over four years. In the club’s statement, Podolski said: “Gornik Zabrze is my club, my home and my football family. I am thrilled to be taking the next step and officially participating in the future of Gornik. I believe in this project and the people behind it. I want the club to continue to develop on a solid foundation – sportingly, organizationally and economically.”
