In the past, anyone who wanted to speak to the regents of the Burgerweeshuis, or was summoned by them, entered through the gate in Luciënsteeg. You entered the waiting room, where you remained until the regents agreed to receive you.
Once inside you were overwhelmed by the beauty of the interior and the many works of art. That was in the seventeenth century.
