The Catalans are caught off guard in Seville. But then the coach’s team plays big.

A strong first-half performance led Barça to their next win in La Liga. In the 5-3 win in Seville, coach Hansi Flick’s team set the course for victory early on – and initially extended their lead over Real Madrid.

The Catalans beat Real Betis 5:3 (4:1) and thus consolidated their lead in the table. Barça is now four points ahead of Real Madrid, who face Celta Vigo on Sunday evening.

The man of the evening was Ferran Torres. The offensive player scored in the 11th, 13th and 40th minutes, making his goals nine to eleven this season. The Spaniard turned the early lead for Betis through Antony (6th) almost single-handedly. Roony Bardghji increased the score to 3-1 in the 31st minute. After the break, Lamine Yamal (59th) scored with a hand penalty. The follow-up goals from Diego Llorente (85th) and Cucho Hernandez (90th, penalty kick) came too late for the hosts.

For Barça it was the third league success in a row. The Champions League continues on Tuesday against Eintracht Frankfurt. Kick-off in the converted Camp Nou is at 9 p.m. (Prime Video).
