In one of the fashion industry’s fastest turnarounds, Dario Vitale is leaving Versace less than three months after unveiling his vision for the Italian fashion house.

Vitale, officially announced as Donatella Versace’s successor in March 2025, is already set to leave the fashion house, reports the trade magazine Women’s Wear Daily. Versace confirmed the departure to the trade magazine.

The creative director’s departure comes just two days after Prada Group completed its acquisition of Versace. Already in April, a few weeks after Vitale’s departure from the Prada Group, where he worked as design and image director at Miu Miu, the group completed the acquisition of Versace from Capri Holdings for one billion euros.

Initially, Vitale, who was due to present his first full collection to the public after a private SS26 show in February, was seen as another part of the new era at Versace. These plans now seem obsolete. Market sources report that Vitale deliberately left the Prada Group to explore new avenues outside the group. His short time at Versace was therefore not connected to the takeover.

It remains unclear whether Vitale will take on a new project soon and who will succeed him at Versace.

Neither Versace nor the new owner, the Prada Group, have yet responded to FashionUnited’s inquiries.
