Following the resignation of Brendan Rodgers, Celtic Glasgow have found a new coach. The Frenchman Wilfried Nancy signed a contract with The Bhoys until 2028. The 48-year-old has looked after the MLS club Columbus Crew for the past three years – with success. In his first season he won the championship with the club from Ohio, the following season they won the Leagues Cup and Nancy was named MLS Coach of the Year.

“We have known Wilfried and his work for some time – he was our preferred candidate when we began the search for a new coach and we are very pleased that he has agreed to come to the club,” said managing director Michael Nicholson. “I know he is excited about this opportunity to be part of Celtic’s future. We will give Wilfried every support to help him overcome the challenges ahead. Our aim, as always, is to bring the club the success our fans deserve – this season and beyond.”

Under interim coach Martin O’Neill, Celtic were able to reduce the gap to leaders Heart of Midlothian to two points in the Scottish Premiership with four wins in four games. Next Sunday (4 p.m.) Nancy, who scored an average of 1.8 points in 136 games with Columbus Crew, will begin the direct duel between the two clubs, followed by the Europa League against AS Roma.
