3:35 p.m
First Swiss woman
Lea Meier is the first athlete from Switzerland on the track. The 24-year-old is competing for the first time today after other athletes took precedence in the relay competitions.

First athlete started
Deedra Irwin from the USA is the first athlete on the track. Östersund is not an easy route and the wind at the shooting range will certainly challenge some of the starters again today. The first athlete to watch out for is Marketa Davidova from the Czech Republic, who is already in fourth place.

The squad from Switzerland
Switzerland has five athletes competing. Of the Gasparin sisters, who formed the basis of the team for years, only Aita Gasparin (16) is still at the start after her sisters retired. Lea Meier is the first Swiss biathlete to take to the track. There are also Amy Baserga (24), Susanna Meinen (87) and Lydia Mettler (91). Lena Häcki-Groß withdrew her start at short notice.

The ÖSV team
The ÖSV women’s team also hasn’t delivered the performances they had hoped for at the start of this year. Anna Andexer will be the first Austrian starter on the track today. Anna Gandler (37), Anna Juppe (51) as well as Lisa Theresa Hauser (60) and Dunja Zdouc (77) complete the five-person squad from Austria.

Shooting in focus
In singles, the focus is on shooting, as every missed shot means a penalty minute. One of the favorites today is Lou Jeanmonnot from France, who lost the overall World Cup last year in a thrilling duel against Franziska Preuß. The runner-up in the 2024/25 overall World Cup showed strong performances in both relays and won the individual ranking in the previous season. The Swede Hanna Öberg and the Czech Marketa Davidova also belong to a large group of candidates for victory. In addition, the Italians Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi are always good for top results.

Is there reparation?
After the relay, which Franziska Preuß’ quartet finished in eleventh place, the team is of course looking to make amends today. Since Preuß won the overall World Cup last season, the DSV was allowed to nominate seven athletes instead of the usual six. In addition to Preuß, who is starting the race as the 44th starter, there are Selina Grotian (start number 56), Julia Tannheimer (17), Janina Hettich-Walz (49), Vanessa Voigt (32) and Marlene Fichtner (79). Anna Weidel (70) is also making her first appearance this season.
