There is an evident state of rebellion in Peronism after the blow that the October defeat meant, at the national level and even in the stronghold of the province of Buenos Aires. The majority of the Ammonites do not dare to point out Cristina Kirchner and her little prison dances on the balcony as being most responsible for this result, but for now they have found a scapegoat in the figure of her son Máximo. It is the previous step to openly confronting the boss: trying to unseat the heir, today the head of the Buenos Aires PJ. In the Peronist sector that has terminals in the governor Axel Kicillof, the mayors of the Conurbano, the leaders of the interior of the country and also the CGT – that is, everyone except CFK, Máximo and the no longer so young people of La Cámpora – the idea continues to grow of preventing the prodigal son of the two former presidents from continuing to lead that position after December 18, the date on which his mandate expires. The elections to renew it – or not – would be held in March. Four years ago, when he took office, he only had one opponent who opposed him, Fernando Gray, Esteban Echeverría’s mayor. Today there are many more.

The point is that, if they manage to unseat Máximo – some even mention Kicillof as his possible replacement – it would mean a hard blow to Cristina’s authority and an announcement of what could follow: if the former president did not step aside, then some Peronist would have to end up confronting her to end her long reign. Perhaps everything could end in a Peronist STEP to settle the 2027 presidential election. On one side, some CFK delegate, and on the other, perhaps a formula made up of governors: Kicillof and someone from the interior?

Is it possible that Máximo or someone else – who would not be, for example, Pedro’s “Wado”, increasingly close to the Buenos Aires governor – are encouraged to fight against the rest of the space? The question should really be another: lost for lost, why wouldn’t they? Perhaps it is just a way to put pressure on the new leadership of Peronism to end up negotiating and continue having a smaller share of influence.

But they are still distant questions. The first thing now is to see what happens with Máximo and whether or not he continues as president of the party in the Province. A lot of what’s coming depends on that detail.
