The entertainer wants to say goodbye to the stage with a TV appearance this week.
Thomas Gottschalk has cancer. The 75-year-old revealed the illness in an interview. In an interview with “Bild”, the “Wetten,dass..?” showmaster explained: “I think it’s time we put the cards on the table. I have cancer.” At the same time, he made his stage farewell official: “I can’t perform anymore. I have to get healthy.” But he currently wants to show himself to everyone.
One final moderation
Before the entertainer completely withdraws from the TV business for his cancer treatment, he wants to appear in the evening program again on Saturday, December 6, 2025. “The show ‘Because They Don’t Know What’s Happening!’ will take place as planned next Saturday, December 6th,” said an RTL spokesman in an official statement. “At the express request of Thomas Gottschalk,” Thomas Gottschalk will enjoy the screen time together with Barbara Schöneberger and Günther Jauch.
“Complicated cancer operation” already completed
In the “Bild” interview, his wife Karina Gottschalk said that he had had a “serious, complicated cancer operation” around four months ago. She explained: “The diagnosis was severe. Epithelioid angiosarcoma. A rare, malignant tumor that arises from the cells of the blood vessels. Thomas was operated on immediately. They had to remove part of both the ureters and the bladder.” Another operation followed, and now Gottschalk had to take strong medication.
Irritating Bambi appearance

Karina Gottschalk told “Bild” about this: “It was only at the Bambi awards that we realized what side effects these medications have.” And Thomas Gottschalk told the same newspaper: “I wasn’t prepared for something like that to ever happen to me. With these tablets I feel like my head is stuck in a washing machine. I didn’t know myself like that. I now know that these are the painkillers.”
