Things are going badly with the Caroline Tensen show One against 100. Very badly. Isn’t it time that RTL 4 put another presenter on this program? “Her final station is approaching.”
The Caroline Tensen show One against 100 has moved to Saturday evening, but is very disappointing. The figures are now even worse than the Robert ten Brink show VriendenLoterij Millionaires, which was taken off the air. What should happen next? Is it perhaps time to put the 61-year-old presenter aside?
Disastrue
TV critic Victor Vlam thinks it’s a real disgrace. “These are really disastrous viewing figures. It is also remarkable when you consider that Een tegen 100 used to score very well. In 2012 and 2013 it even scored better than Miljoenenjacht. Well, those times are really far behind us, because we now see that it scores about a third of that.”
He continues in the podcast Victor Indicates TV: “There has been a downward trend for a while now. It really seems to be on the decline. 25 years is also a long time for a program. They have also implemented all kinds of innovations recently. (…) But yes, it has not all been very well received yet. That decline that has been there for a while is now very visible.”
Terminal station
The show’s sponsor, Postcode Lottery, is also working on new shows, such as Humberto Tans Schat Je Rijk and Linda de Mols In De Ring. “So they are clearly looking for a successor. The program is a bit over and I also think that Caroline Tensen is approaching the end of her career.”
Victo continues: “You now also see that there is a kind of generational change taking place in Hilversum. Wendy van Dijk is also a victim of this and Caroline Tensen is somewhat on the same track.”
‘Not so good’
Caroline is passé, Victor thinks. “The problem with Caroline Tensen has always been that she has a certain charisma, but technically she is just not that good as a presenter.”
He continues: “Linda de Mol is technically much better and can build up tension much better. That is something that Caroline can never do very well. It also makes her less versatile.”
Out of the paint
Victor points out that Caroline has once filled in at RTL Boulevard. “There were also complaints that she did not read the autocue naturally. That is also a problem. She has also done 5 Hours Live and she did not do well there either, especially when it was a more substantive conversation. It is a bit difficult with her.”
He continues: “She is someone who has a certain charisma and very much had it, but beyond that she cannot do much and that makes her very limited in use.”
New host
What should RTL 4 do with One against 100? “If you want to revive One against 100, you should try with a new presenter, you would say. I don’t know if they will do that, but I can imagine that they would want to try that at some point. That would be a very serious blow to her career, because she no longer has that many programs.”
And a new format for Caroline? “That will be difficult. Many of the things she tackles no longer have the success they used to.”
