Thomas Gottschalk made his serious cancer diagnosis public at the weekend. According to his own statements, the treatment, including two operations and 33 radiation treatments, has consequences for the moderator. In an interview with “Bild”, he explained his strange appearances at two TV awards with ongoing mental stress after pain therapy.
Gottschalk’s big farewell from show business is actually planned for next Saturday (December 6th). Then the last edition of “Because they don’t know what’s happening – The Jauch-Gottschalk-Schöneberger Show” run. The show has been captivating for years with its unplanned nature and many surprise effects. This is also why it is usually recorded live.
But will “For They Know Not What Happens…” still take place after the events of the past few days? As RTL itself states in its program announcement, the show will be produced on Saturday, so it is not a pre-recorded recording. At “TV Tickets” The broadcast date is also expressly stated as December 6th, tickets were only available for that day (which have long been sold out).
Thomas Gottschalk says goodbye to TV
Gottschalk emphasized – even before the announcement of his serious cancer – that he wanted to take a longer break next year. For him, television is no longer an area that he wants to continue to explore. “But that doesn’t mean that I’ll never make a sound again,” he confirmed to “Bunte”.
However, there are currently no plans to change “Because they don’t know what’s happening…”. It will also be the last edition of the show for Günther Jauch and Barbara Schöneberger. Just a week later, on December 13th, according to RTL, another number will take place. “Without preparation, with new surprises, wild games and prominent guests, a new chapter begins this evening,” says an announcement from the production company.
There are no further details: “As always, who will moderate and who has to compete for their own stand will only be decided live. What does this new era have in store? You will find out in the show.”
For Gottschalk himself, rescheduling or suspending the show is probably out of the question. When asked whether he should have canceled the appearances at the Bambi and Romy awards, he told “Bild”: “Then even more malice would have descended on me. Besides, I’m old school and fulfill my obligations.”
