After Luca Kilian’s injury shock, it is still unclear whether the 1. FC Köln professional can continue his career.
As “Bild” reports, Kilian is currently fighting for his career. The 26-year-old basically hopes to be able to continue working as a professional.
However, he first wants to focus on finding confidence in his knee again.
Only then will a decision be made about continuing one’s career.
Just a few weeks after returning to team training, Kilian seriously injured his right knee again in September. The devastating diagnosis: cruciate ligament tear.
The central defender has torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee three times in 18 months.
“Luca’s renewed cruciate ligament injury hits us all very hard. It is incredibly bitter that he is now faced with such a serious injury for the third time,” sports director Matthias Kessler was quoted as saying on the Cologne club’s website.
Since then, Kilian has not been seen in Cologne or at the Rheinenergiestadion.
According to “Bild”, the defender underwent the necessary operation with a specialist in Munich.
According to the tabloid, he is currently completing the rehabilitation program with external trainers in his hometown of Dortmund. The environment with family and friends should help him recover.
It is currently still unclear when Kilian will start rehab training again at 1. FC Köln.
Kilian’s contract with 1. FC Köln expires
The former U21 national player’s contract with Effzeh expires at the end of the season. The cathedral city club has already assured the unlucky guy full support.
“As the FC family, we will accompany him closely, give him the best possible support and work together to ensure that he finds the strength he needs to overcome this new setback. Luca is a fighter – he has proven that several times in the past,” said Kessler.
What this means with regard to the expiring contract remains to be seen.
