The Netherlands protects the logistics hub for support to Ukraine with 2 Patriot anti-aircraft systems, NASAMS, counter-drone systems and 300 soldiers. This is part of NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU). Military equipment from NATO countries goes to Ukraine from this hub in Poland. The Netherlands will protect this until June 1, 2026.

Minister Brekelmans: ”The Netherlands provides advanced capabilities for layered air defense. In this way we protect the logistics supply to Ukraine, defend NATO’s eastern flank, and also increase our own training. After all, it is one of the first times that we have used this combination of systems simultaneously. We show Russia that there is no point in attacking this node. This strengthens the security of Poland, Ukraine, NATO and the Netherlands.”

The Dutch contribution focuses on an integrated unit of 3 different capacities. In addition to both Patriots, this involves a NASAMS anti-aircraft system and anti-drone systems. The Netherlands provides layered air defense together with partners. This is used against possible threats from ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, fighter jets, helicopters and drones.

Various NATO countries rotate in protecting the logistics center. Before the Netherlands, Germany took action, with some of the above-mentioned air defense capabilities. NATO has yet to determine which country will be next after June 1, 2026.

NSATU coordinates and facilitates the training of Ukrainian soldiers and provides military support to the country. The military equipment donated by NATO countries to Ukraine must reach its destination safely. The Dutch air defense enables NSATU to carry out these logistics activities safely.

Deployment of F-35s

The Netherlands previously protected Polish airspace with the use of F35 fighter aircraft. This F35 detachment is now waving goodbye. Together with Norwegian colleagues, the Netherlands monitored NATO airspace from September 1, 2025 to December 1, 2025. This deployment was also intended to deter Russia and protect military equipment going to Ukraine.
