Train traffic from the northern provinces to the rest of the country has been seriously disrupted since Sunday evening. There will be no trains running from ‘t Harde, a station just before Zwolle, to Zwolle until at least 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon. The trains between Zwolle and Lelystad are also out. The NS reports this. Anyone who wants to travel from Friesland, Groningen or Drenthe by train to places further south in the Netherlands almost always has to travel via Zwolle.
The cause of the problems is a thwarted copper theft on Sunday evening at the railway in Zwolle. The police have arrested a man stilt ProRail. “Although nothing has been removed, the damage is significant. Copper theft causes a lot of inconvenience for travelers, costs society a lot of money and is also life-threatening.”
Detour via Deventer is also difficult due to a signal failure between Amersfoort and Barneveld. Fewer trains will run on that route on Monday. The NS is unable or only to a limited extent able to deploy replacement buses during the morning rush hour, a spokesperson reported to the ANP news agency.
