Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold is one of the most experienced Norwegian biathletes. But recently she’s had problems – there’s a reason for that.
Norway had imagined it differently: things didn’t go well for the women’s team in the women’s 4×6 kilometer relay on Saturday. The team led by star biathlete Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold ended up in 13th place. The experienced athlete then made a confession.
She told Norwegian public broadcaster NRK: “I’m scared, quite simply.” But where does this come from? Tandrevold already had difficulty in relay races last season, so she now has flashbacks to that time. Especially if she doesn’t deliver at the shooting range.
“Once I start missing, I can no longer concentrate as hard as I should,” said the 29-year-old. The Norwegian made four mistakes at the start and therefore had to complete a penalty lap. This performance upset her. Although she had worked on not becoming afraid of missed shots, the feeling still occurred.
“It’s really a shame that I messed it up,” said Tandrevold. Her teammate Karoline Knotten still encouraged her. She explained after the race: “We have to take with us what we do well. We take with us what we have achieved. We have to look forward. We know what we are good at.”
Tandrevold also suspected that she would probably no longer be used in the relay and that other athletes could get their chance before Christmas. The Norwegian sports commentator Ola Lunde said simply: “A very dark day for Norway. Nothing really worked.” Victory went to France, ahead of Italy and the Czech Republic.
