He still has a little muscle pain, but Roger Pop is mainly enjoying his victory when NH speaks to him.
“It was a surprise, but I fought hard,” he says, still hoarsely on the phone. At 9:30 am Dutch time he slalomed to gold during the World Championships in Australia. It is one of the parts of the sport of handi-skiing, next to jumping and tricking.
‘It really didn’t go well’
“During the preliminary rounds I didn’t do well. I thought: I’m out, it really didn’t go well,” says Pop. According to the Amstelvener, this was mainly due to uncertainty that arose due to a number of setbacks. For example, his belongings were quarantined at customs for ten days, the weather was not optimal for proper preparation and the boat he trained behind was not the same as the competition boat.
“As a result, I went into the preliminary rounds with uncertainty in my mind,” he explains.
