As the Bochum police and the Bundesliga soccer team announced in a joint statement on Thursday, charges of dangerous bodily harm were brought against a 38-year-old from Bochum on March 30.
“The suspicion is essentially based on witness statements, the viewed and evaluated TV images and on molecular genetic examinations of the seized instrument,” the statement said.
In the second half of the game on March 18, assistant referee Christian Gittelmann was hit in the head by a drink cup. The game was therefore canceled and a few days later the sports court of the German Football Association scored 2-0 for Mönchengladbach.
