Wheelchair user Jooris experiences problems every day. “I can’t get into the station and even if I get in, I can’t get out,” he says. “I ask for assistance, but nothing happens. The door barely opens and before I can get through, it slams shut again.”
Beweging.net therefore took action at the station this morning. The organization complains about the poor state of the infrastructure and sees much room for quick, affordable solutions. “It is very difficult for people with a stroller or bicycle to get from one platform to the other,” says Erwin Vanbelle of Beweging.net Lichtervelde. “A simple bicycle chute, a well-functioning escalator or an elevator can make a world of difference.”
