At the general meeting of the SM League, big decisions were made late on Thursday evening in terms of the future of the entire Finnish ice hockey.

On the wallpaper were the future series system, the management model of the series as well as the income distribution.

In particular, the income distribution of the playoffs, which rubbed the big clubs in the SM League, experienced quite a bit of turmoil compared to the old model.

In the future, each club will keep its own box office from the 2026–27 season onwards. However, the SM League collects an expense allowance from the clubs to cover the costs of the playoffs.

In recent years, the income from the semi-finals and finals was distributed among all the teams that reached the playoffs.

In the semi-finals and finals, the organizing teams got to keep 20 percent, the rest went to the SM League’s common pot, from which the SM League took its own slice and the rest was distributed to the teams that advanced to the playoffs.

In the semi-finals, the teams were allowed to keep their box office receipts themselves.

For example, in 2022–24, Tappara has distributed no less than 2.1 million euros from the box office revenue of the three playoff seasons to other teams in the league.
