He is still prosecuted for possessing a large number of firearms. The public prosecutor announced this today at a pro forma hearing in the case in Rotterdam, according to the NOS.
The suspect from North Brabant was arrested in August in a home in Badhoevedorp. It is not clear what he did there.
The NOS writes that the Public Prosecution Service was tipped off at the time by the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). He indicated that the man was prepared to commit terrorist violence.
“We have found no evidence of this in the investigation,” the press officer now tells the broadcaster.
Threatening statements and worrying ideas
The man allegedly said he wanted to use bullets against Antifa, the intelligence service reported. But research has not made it clear to whom he said this and whether the threat was aimed at specific people.
“So that is insufficient to speak of preparation for a concrete attack,” says the press officer.
He does talk about a ‘worrisome weapons case’. The man had at least six firearms, hundreds of cartridges and a large number of gun parts in his home. He also planned to convert gas firearms into real firearms, the press officer said. “We also find his ideas worrying.”
The Geuzenbond is classified as extreme right-wing by the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV).
The Geuzenbond focuses on young people in the Netherlands and Belgium. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the group strives for “normalization of right-wing extremist ideas and making ‘the white race’ resilient through physical training.”
