Total value of 6 million

Julián Malatini (24), Skelly Alvero (23) and Isak Hansen-Aarøen (21) have a combined 124 minutes for Werder Bremen this season. Now something could happen on the transfer market for the trio with a total value of 6 million euros.

“If there are suitable solutions in winter, we are ready to talk,” said managing director Clemens Fritz to the “Deichstube”. The club will look at “what makes sense and what doesn’t.” There is already an exchange with the players’ advisors. It is important for the three professionals “that they get their playing time so that they can take further steps in their development,” emphasized Fritz.

Malatini was on the field for the full distance on matchday 1 in the 1:4 defeat in Frankfurt. A ligament injury then put him out of action. Since then, only another minute has been added. To make matters worse, he suffered a torn muscle fiber in his thigh during training on Monday, which is why he is not available for the time being. The club did not provide any information about the exact downtime. Malatini was signed from his native Argentina in January 2024 for €2 million and is said to have a contract until 2028.

Werder: million-dollar flop Alvero on the bench, Hansen-Aarøen in the reserve

The Bremen team had already been looking for a buyer for Alvero last summer. The midfielder only started two of his 20 games during his time on the Weser. He mostly sits on the bench. Werder paid a total of 5 million euros for the Frenchman – including the fee for the loan in the second half of the 2023/24 season and the transfer fee for the subsequent permanent signing. In May, licensing area manager Peter Niemeyer described the situation as “unsatisfactory” for all parties due to the short playing time. This season, Alvero (contract until 2028) came on as a substitute in the 3-3 draw against Leverkusen on Matchday 2 and in the 4-0 win in Mönchengladbach on Matchday 3.

The situation is even more difficult with Hansen-Aarøen, who Werder signed in February 2024 for 250,000 euros, but who has been waiting for a breakthrough ever since. The Norwegian (contract until 2027) played his only minute this season on matchday 1 and is usually not even on the bench. Instead, there are four appearances over 343 minutes for the second team in the Regionalliga North. He scored one goal and provided two assists. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aalborg BK in Denmark, and now he could move on again elsewhere. Just like for Malatini and Alvero.
