Chantal Janzen will receive a nice gift from the NPO, says TV authority Tina Nijkamp. There is a good chance that the comeback season of The Voice will soon score well…
RTL 4 is very concerned that the comeback season of The Voice of Holland, which starts in January, achieves sky-high viewing figures. And there is now good news for presenter Chantal Janzen and channel boss Peter van der Vorst, according to TV authority Tina Nijkamp. “There is also an uplifting message for Peter van der Vorst,” she says Tina’s TV Update.
Anonymous vs Voice
Peter sits in the corner where the blows fall. “Things have not been going well lately, but there is now some good news to report, because The Voice, which starts on January 16 on RTL 4, really has zero competition! Really! Because what is NPO 1 going to broadcast? That is normally good for a million-dollar series like Flikken Maastricht on Friday.”
Friday is usually a strong evening for NPO 1, but not in January compared to The Voice. “No, they’re abandoning it completely. They’re actually already doing that with the BuZa series, well, no one watches it at all, and now they’re continuing that in January with the Anonymous series. That’s a second season of that series.”
Two seasons
Why does the NPO pump so much money into a moderately viewed series like Anonymous? “That series was already broadcast in 2023, the first season, and BnnVara probably immediately ordered two seasons in one go, that’s what some broadcasters do. That also happened with Arcadia. They do that because it makes a difference in terms of writing.”
“For example, two more seasons of Gooische Vrouwen were ordered in one go. That saves costs. Anyway, it was already known that Gooische Vrouwen’ comeback was a hit, but it is more difficult to estimate this with new series, and Anonymous was simply not a very big hit. And so it is very easy to score for The Voice.”
Young children
Anonymous is not really a family series anyway, according to Tina. “It is quite a crime series, so you will not watch it with children aged 6 and 8, so The Voice will simply become a ratings hit. There is no other way! And so this is a very big windfall for Peter van der Vorst.”
She continues: “1.5 million viewers should certainly be possible and with this competition it could well become more, so no, Peter van der Vorst has bad news every day with RTL Tonight, but now a bright spot because the competition from The Voice is really nothing at all.”
Not a strong showing
And what about SBS 6? That channel traditionally does little on Friday evenings, Tina concludes. “SBS 6 doesn’t really have a strong program on Fridays either.”
“They have always made way for RTL 4 there, so the way is clear for a million-dollar score there.”
