The damage could have been much greater, as three goals from the home team were also disallowed. The visitors played the entire second half with ten men after captain Ronald Araújo received two yellow cards.
Spurred on by the noisy fans at Stamford Bridge, both teams immediately looked for attack. Enzo Fernández seemed to put Chelsea 1-0 after four minutes, but the goal was disallowed due to handball. Two minutes later, Ferran Torres squandered a very big chance on behalf of Barcelona.
Another goal disallowed
Chelsea then had the upper hand and saw another goal cut short by Fernández’s goal. The English still opened the scoring thanks to Jules Koundé, who put a low cross into his own goal. Barcelona’s problems worsened after Araújo was sent off just before half-time.
A goal by Chelsea substitute Andrey Santos was disallowed after halftime, but Estêvão still made it 2-0 with a nice goal. Liam Delap, another substitute, scored the 3-0.
De Jong and Hato
De Jong played the entire match for the visitors. Jorrel Hato remained on the bench at Chelsea.
