Four children were surprised today in the Atlas Theater with a youth ribbon. The four thought they were coming for a quiz, but instead they were all awarded a youth ribbon.

Youth ribbons are awarded to children who have contributed to society in a special and positive way. It is the fifteenth time that the ribbons are presented in Emmen, writes ZO!34.

As a volunteer, Julyan Kalee (16) is the driving force behind activities for children in the Emmerhout and Angelslo neighborhoods. He even organized a complete play week, so that children could exercise, play and have fun together.

Joyce Hollander (13) organized two free Summer Parties in Klazienaveen to bring lonely people together. She provided games, music, a live performance and a raffle. During the Summer Party, everyone received free snacks and drinks, such as ice cream and hamburgers.

When a pan of oil caught fire and the wind hit his mother’s face, Amir Hosseini Mashally, 12, remained calm. He and the neighbor called the ambulance and they helped his mother cool her face. Partly due to Amir’s brave actions, his mother was allowed to return home after one night in the hospital, with only minor burns.

Kian Sijp (11) received a ribbon for his efforts for the Beatrix children’s hospital. He wanted to give something back, because he spent a lot of time here himself. Together with his grandmother and niece, he baked and sold more than twenty thousand pastries. With this he raised 8,115 euros for the hospital.
