Defending champion Germany is still under pressure at the European Curling Championships in Lohja, Finland – but has at least returned to the road to success after two defeats in a row.
The team around skip Marc Muskatewitz (29) initially conceded a 7:9 against Italy on Monday, before achieving their second victory in a confident 10:2 against Denmark. After five games, the team is tied for sixth place in the ten-team table.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to win the medal; for the men of the German Curling Association (DCV), a win against the Czech Republic is also a must on Tuesday (7 p.m.). The best four nations reach the semi-finals, the first eight qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The bottom two are relegated to Division B.
The DCV women, who are still playing for their Olympic ticket in December, also have a negative balance. They lost 4:8 against Sweden and Switzerland on Monday and now have two wins and three defeats. Four games remain.
Last year, the men’s team also stormed to the title in Lohja, which was a complete surprise, and last spring they also managed to qualify for the Olympics for the Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in February.
