Red Bull is counting on Jürgen Klopp as football boss to celebrate success in Germany and elsewhere. Uli Hoeneß thinks nothing of the model. He becomes clear.

Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß doesn’t believe Jürgen Klopp has a long-term future at Red Bull. The long-time Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool coach has been responsible for football in the beverage company’s cosmos as “Global Head of Soccer” for almost a year, including RB Leipzig and other clubs in the USA.

In the “OMR Podcast” Hoeneß said: “I could never imagine him as an official who travels around the country, to New York, and looks after the different teams. And I don’t think it will be a good model in the long run. I also don’t think he’ll do that forever, I can’t imagine that.”

The 72-year-old recalled 2008, when Klopp looked for a new job after leaving Mainz. At that time it was also an issue at FC Bayern – but it didn’t get a chance. Instead, the decision fell on Jürgen Klinsmann, who later failed for the Munich team. Klopp, on the other hand, had great success at BVB.

Hoeneß explained: “I have always admired Jürgen Klopp as a coach who is on the pitch, who develops a team, who brings a team forward with his personality.” When asked why Bayern had not offered Klopp a management role after his Liverpool departure, Hoeneß said: “I see Jürgen Klopp on the pitch and nowhere else.”
