Sami Välimäki27, won the season finale of golf’s PGA Tour late Sunday. The victory is historic, as no Finn has previously been able to win on the top men’s tour.
Välimäki’s winning score was 23 under par. He defeated the US Max McGreevy by just one stroke.
The Finn received more than 1.26 million dollars, or about 1.1 million euros, in prize money for his achievement. Välimäki’s previous top result on the PGA tour was second place.

Välimäki started the last round of the RSM Classic in Georgia, USA, from the top spot. He sunk several birdies right at the beginning of the round. Sometimes the Finn shared the top spot with Max McGreevy, but grabbed it back for himself alone.
McGreevy was second in the race. Third was the United States Ricky Castillo with a score of 21 under par.

The Finnish golfer also had an authoritative supporter in the tournament. The President of the Republic, Alexander Stubb, said on Sunday that he had a conversation with the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Trump revealed during the conversation that he had watched the games of a Finnish golfer.
