Hansa Rostock has continued its successful streak in the third division. The Mecklenburgers won 2-0 (0-0) against second-to-last 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 on Saturday, but had more trouble than expected.

by Sebastian Ragoss

“It was the difficult game that was expected. But the victory was well deserved,” said Hansa coach Daniel Brinkmann: “It was a good learning experience: that you have to stay calm and believe in your chance.”

Hansa has recently been in strong form, Schweinfurt is already hopelessly behind in the fight to stay in the league after 15 games: What could go wrong for the Rostock team, who showed up to celebrate the club’s 60th anniversary in cute fisherman’s shirts?

Well, the old saying that every game starts at zero will not lose its validity in 2025. And so Hansa had to work hard to gain the upper hand against Bayern.

The guests had their first good chance through Joshua Endres. But Rostock goalkeeper Benjamin Uphoff directed the ball over the goal with his foot (10th).

Hansa not consistent enough

The Mecklenburgers then took control and regularly found gaps in the Schweinfurt defense. Alone: There was a lack of consistency in the finish in the first half. Benno Dietze missed two good chances (22nd/31st).

Franz Pfanne and Andreas Voglsammer (26th) also failed to overcome guest keeper Toni Stahl (26th). Voglsammer also missed the last opportunity before the break when he was denied by Stahl from a tight angle in stoppage time.

The game would become a game of patience: Hansa would have realized this by halftime at the latest. But Uphoff was also challenged in the second half when he parried a shot from Ekin Celebi with his foot (53′).

Schuster scores in the second attempt

Then we went back towards Schweinfurter Tor. The newcomer offered gaps, but Hansa made the wrong decision too often and regularly got stuck. Or did they fail because of steel, which didn’t have to solve any particularly difficult tasks.

But anyone who has a run also often has luck on their side: in the 78th minute the redemptive 1-0 scoreline came for Rostock. In the second attempt, Marco Schuster overcame Stahl with a deflected shot and brought salvation to the Ostseestadion.

The encounter was practically decided; the guests’ subtle attacking efforts were too harmless. Christian Kinsombi almost made it 2-0, but his shot hit the crossbar (86′). Nevertheless, the second goal was achieved. Emil Holten scored shortly before the final whistle.

In the end there was the fourth win from the last six games (with two draws): Hansa still has its sights firmly on the top places.
