About half of the selection of Groen Geel was not allowed to play korfball last weekend due to the corona rules. A new date has now been found for the canceled game against Oost-Arnhem and Groen Geel hopes to be able to play against TOP again on Saturday in Wormer.
According to chairman Rick de Wit, the light is ‘in principle’ green for next weekend, but there are many uncertainties. For example, testing is still being done on competition day and it is also questionable whether TOP can assemble a fully-fledged team. The team from Sassenheim did not play last round for the same reason as Groen Geel.
“It is a difficult situation,” says De Wit. “A number of players have tested positive, but there are also a few who have to be quarantined at home because the person they live with has tested positive. And almost everyone has almost no complaints.”
Crucial match
The duel against TOP is crucial for Groen Geel. If the formation of trainer Daniel Harmzen wants to finish in the first three in group B, it has to be won. Groen Geel is in fifth place after five games with two points; TOP is the number four with four points. DOS’46 is third with six points, but has played one more game.
The first three clubs go to the championship group and therefore automatically play in the Korfbal League next season. The bottom three have to save their lives in the relegation pool. A hefty task, because the Korfbal League will go back from twelve to ten clubs after this season.
The Korfbalverbond has now put the East Arnhem – Groen Geel match on the calendar for Wednesday 19 January 8.45 pm.
NH Sport will be present at Groen Geel – TOP on Saturday. You will find reactions and a summary afterwards on the NH Sport site, app, Twitter and Facebook page
